Beautiful Butler Beach, Florida

View the Butler Beach Photo Gallery.

Beautiful Butler Beach is located on Anastasia Island, just off SR-A1A, about 2 miles south of St. Augustine Beach, Florida. The main entrance to the park is via the Frank B. Butler County Park.

Turning onto the narrow, sandy road that leads to the park, it’s hard to believe that you’re actually headed towards the ocean. If you used a GPS to find the beach entrance, you may even doubt that it’s working correctly.

The road ends at a small, uncrowded neighborhood park.  “Where’s the beach?”, you wonder because you don’t see it from the parking lot of the park, which sits on a hill above the dunes.  Just follow the long walkover across the dunes and down to the sand for a view sure to take your breath away.

From the top of the long walkover, the ocean appears as a thin, blue band across the horizon.

You pace quickens as you view increases.  You can’t wait to dip your toes in the clear blue ocean.

Finally, you reach the end of the walkover and the breathtaking view of the aqua and cerulean Atlantic Ocean.

The wooden walkover crosses the dunes down to the sands of Butler Beach.

The white powder sands of Butler Beach.

Butler Beach is uncrowded and unspoiled, reminiscent of beach days from another era. It’s white powder sands cushion every step as cerulean Atlantic waves ebb and flow over the beach under a blanket of fluffy, white clouds.  It’s the perfect  beach escape to sit, sun, splash, relax and rejuvenate.

Waves ebb and flow onto the beach from the Atlantic Ocean.

The Frank B. Butler County Park is open from sunrise to sunset daily. It has clean restrooms with showers, a pavilion and picnic tables. Leashed dogs are welcome, bicycles are allowed on the beach and for a fee, you can buy a special permit to drive on the beach from March to September. Horseback riding is even allowed during designated times with a special permit obtained at the Minnie Street walkover.
